Thanks Mike! Great Friday refreshment…and salve for a real life ailment! Gotta run……to a conference call!

Very funny video! And happens just like that too . . . . it’s amazing how so many people get distracted “wanting to be nice” and end up this way – constant interruptions or people not prepared for the call or getting a guest speaker on and then 10 minutes is spend trying to figure out the technology! Thanks for the video – lots of fun!

They remind me of the HR director who writes a memo in Word, prints it on her desktop printer, has her staff hand-carry it around to all the managers, fax it to the remote offices, and then sends an e-mail to see if everyone got it.
Beyond emergency and intimacy, real-time voice communication and its vendors struggle to find relevance in the 21st century. Asynchronous (the way we handle the messages in our in-boxes) is the only way to work now.
Unfortunately, while copiers and printers are in decline for similar reasons, sales, management, and those lacking confidence in their written communication skills just can’t ever seem to get close enough, and the phone represents to them their last hook in our personal space, so they’re not going to give it up. Ever.

very funny video, thank you for sharing. There are three things that annoy me about conference calls : 1. when same people show up late on every call , sometimes its a connection problem and thats acceptable for some countries but when people schedule other meetings and call in apologising for coming late because they were at another meeting – that’s slack. 2. When you cant hear what people are saying, or when there are many people on the other side of the call and they dont identify themselves before they speak 3. when call timings are not fair, people in asia/australia often have to take calls at night to meet U.S or Europe work time, very few people offer to take turns.

We always play this bingo game in conference calls ( which started out as a way for us guys in the office to have a bit of fun, and it still is, what you get is a generated bingo board with different occurrences that usually happen during your typical call and just like in regular bingo you have to go for lines or the full house. I thought it would serve as a good distraction but it’s also really helped me concentrate during calls because I’m always listening for particular things people say or do. Plus it’s good to get some competition going in the office!

I LOVE THIS!!! And have lived it so many times!!!

Great Video – how true. I have been on a call when someone was placing their McDonalds order – not on mute! Thanks

  • Mike Rogers February 21, 2012, 2:06 pm

That is hilarious Mike. Did they realize they weren’t on mute at some point?

  • Cherie March 15, 2012, 12:30 pm

This is spot on!!! I have lived this scenario so many times. What always suprises me is when the facilitator of the call does not use the tools they have at hand (like muting the participants!). Great job!

  • Mike Rogers March 19, 2012, 7:15 pm

Thanks Cherie, I am glad you enjoyed it. And i agree, I mean, the mute button isn’t very far from the grasp of most facilitators. However, they must be careful because usually the speaker button is right next to it (which will hang up the call)! LOL. That might be another post I think.

Not only was this very funny but almost exactly how every conference call seems to go. Thanks for sharing.

You are welcome Ralph. I am glad you enjoyed it : )
