Leadership Stories Series

Tiger – Indian Legend – Some Leaders Think They Are Tough

How many of us would admit that we are in the skin of a tiger, but our heart is that of a mouse? We talk tough, but we are afraid to follow through with action. We believe it is important at times to be direct and honest with those we lead, but we avoid conflict.

People these days are being asked to do more with less, are feeling a lack of appreciation, are struggling with stresses outside of the workplace and the message often times is “just be happy you have a job.”

Managing people requires that we take into consideration their differences. Some of those you lead will need lots of direction, while others would prefer you leave them alone. Some will want more monetary rewards, while others prefer recognition or challenging assignments. Customers are much the same way. Providing generic customer service will get you generic customer satisfaction.

Once there were a group of frogs merrily hopping through the forest. They didn’t have a Frog3 care in the world until two of the frogs fell into a deep pit. All of the other frogs quickly gathered around the large pit and peered down into its deep vastness. They all begin to scratch their heads trying to come up with a way to help.

Why should leaders tell stories? Because stories can convey emotion, humor and learning. They are interesting, captivating and memorable. They can be inspiring, motivational and life changing. People relate to stories and generally love them.
