Would you buy a house just because it is painted in a color you really like? Of course not; price, square footage, location, number of bedrooms and many other considerations go into buying a house. Selecting the right leader requires many considerations as well.
As a Service Desk manager, I had over 50 agents answering phones. I had observed that our customer service stats were trending down. I talked to my first line managers and they shared what they thought. However, the trend continued.
What is your team’s purpose? Simple question, but many teams have a hard time answering it. If you can’t define it then ask yourself this question – why does your team exist? What is your family’s purpose? Ever thought about that question?
Have you ever had a leader who said they would do one thing, but did another? How did you feel about that leader? Did he lose some credibility and trust in your eyes? To do what you say you will do is fundamental to your integrity as a leader. But how often do you see leaders do the opposite?
