As companies continue to lay off thousands of people, this company found an innovative way to keep the people they care about (all of their employees and families) and prevent families and lives from undo adversity and possible poverty. How did they do it? By setting up what they call “alternative work.” Work that was contracted out is now done by employees. They even have a corporate garden that employees work in and sell.
leaders care
These last two weekends I have had the opportunity to play Mr. Mom, and I mean big time Mr. Mom with five of my eight kids (15 year old girl and boys that are 12, 9, 6 and 4). I’m not use to it, but it has been an experience I wouldn’t mind having more (but nobody tell my wife that). Not because I enjoy dealing with every sibling squabble, washing every dirty dish, delegating chores or even making sure everyone gets off to school without a hitch at four different times!
I just completed my second inspirational leadership video titled “Leaders Care.” This one is based on a true story of two of my kids when they were ages five and two.
The first practical advice someone could give to an aspiring leader in helping them make the transition from manager to leader is to care. Because great leaders care. If you don’t care, you are nothing as a leader.
