Every once in a while you hear a leadership story that touches you to the core. I produced the following leadership story because I found it so powerful in what it taught. Great leaders care. I am happy to share with you a video based on a very personal and true story of two of my children that taught me a great deal about the most important factor in leadership – caring.

Sometimes people just need someone to listen to them. Other times they just need a little understanding and a sensitive act of service. I love this video and wanted to share it. I believe it can transform the way you look at things as a leader. It has already had a large impact on my thinking.

I am not sure if that memory has stuck in my mind because I thought putting a book down my pants before getting whacked would be a good idea or because of what his dad said. As a father before disciplining my own kids I have always tried to think “is this hurting me more than it is hurting them?” It’s a great litmus test for parents when disciplining their kids.
