Have you ever had a performance problem you thought you fixed that didn’t get fixed? Many leaders fix problems by yelling a little, demanding that the problem be fixed, relying on their own judgment time and time again and in some cases just avoiding it all together.
Road trips always take longer when I travel with my family. But it is always more interesting, entertaining, and memorable when I am with them instead of driving alone. When my family would pile into our Dodge Durango for a road trip, at least one of our kids would invariably ask “how long until we get there?”
What is your team’s purpose? Simple question, but many teams have a hard time answering it. If you can’t define it then ask yourself this question – why does your team exist? What is your family’s purpose? Ever thought about that question?
It can be difficult for a functioning or dysfunctioning team to bring in a new team member. There is a period of adjustment that has to occur for both the team and the new member to the team. Teams traditionally go through four stages of team development; forming, storming, norming and performing (Tuckman, 1965).
