The term leader is used loosely. Leaders leave legacies of integrity, caring, love, giving back more than they took and inspiring others to do the same; they have purpose and sustaining value. Leaders leave an impact on the things that matter most. not how much money they make or worlds they conquer. John Wooden was a leader in the purest definition.

Okay, this is just plain cute. However, there are some implications for all of us who are leaders. How many of us could look ourselves in the mirror and say nothing but positive things for one minute?

I was in the office of a manger of a fairly large company not too long ago. In this office the manager proudly displayed the certificates of achievement his department’s employees had earned. He was a senior leader and very proud of the things employees had accomplished even two or three levels down the hierarchy.

I have always believed that teams must spend focused time on strengthening relationships between team members.

Try this some time. When in your email in-box next time, press the shift key and highlight every email by clicking on the first and then the last email with your mouse. Then press the delete key. It’s magic! Everyone of them disappear. You now have more hours to do other things.
